Carnotaurus was a dinosaur that lived in what is now South America approximately 72 to 69 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period.
Carnotaurus was a theropod dinosaur and a member of the Abelisauridae family, which also includes Abelisaurus and Aucasaurus.
The environment that Carnotaurus lived in was tropical, with forests, rivers, and floodplains. It would have been humid with temperatures ranging between 20°C to 30°C.
Carnotaurus was relatively small for a Theropod growing to around 9 meters long and 2 meters tall at the hip. Its weight is estimated to be between up to 2 tons.
One of the most distinctive features of Carnotaurus was its unique skull, which was short and wide with two large horns above its eyes. It had sharp teeth, ideal for tearing and chewing flesh. It had long and muscular legs which allowed it to run at high speeds, while its forearms were short and vestigial, indicating that it was a runner and not a climber.
As its name suggests Carnotaurus was a carnivorous dinosaur and its diet consisted of large herbivorous dinosaurs such as sauropods and ornithopods.
The skin of the Carnotaurus was covered in small non-overlapping scales which may have provided some protection against predators. It had a long, flexible tail that was used for balance and steering while running.
